About this Product

Agri-Mek® SC, a new insecticide formulation that provides food crop growers with powerful, fast acting control and protection against a range of damaging mites and insects.

Agri-Mek SC contains the Group 6 insecticide abamectin, and provides a modern, water-based formulation that is absorbed within the plant leaf to provide extended residual control and protection.

Agri-Mek SC also offers the convenience of flexible timing and application methods when pests pose a threat.

With its highly concentrated formula, Agri-Mek SC features lower use rates than Agri-Mek 1.9% EC, but with the same crop uses, including apples, pears and onions.

Application Method

Mixing Order

  1. Ensure that the sprayer interior is clean, then fill the spray tank with ½ the required amount of water and engage gentle agitation.  Good agitation is indicated by a rippling or rolling action on the surface of the water.
  2. Add Agri-Mek® SC and agitate to ensure complete mixing.
  3. Fill the tank to ¾ the required amount of water.
  4. Finish filling the sprayer with water, maintaining good agitation.
  5. After any break in spraying operations, agitate thoroughly before spraying again.
  6. Spray the pesticide suspension the same day as mixing.
  7. Do Not mix, load or clean spray equipment where there is a potential to contaminate wells or aquatic systems.

Effects of Weather

  • Avoid application when heavy rain is forecast.
  • Rainfast once dry
  • See label for crop specific recommendations.

Use Restrictions

Apple:

  • Do not apply more than once per growing season. 170 mL/ha with 10-20 L/ha spray oil registered for use on apples.
  • Do not apply in less than 375 L of water per hectare.

Bulb Onion Sub-Group Crop Group 3-07A : Do Not apply more than 3 applications per growing season.

Caneberry Sub-group, Crop Group 13-07A

  • Apply as a post-harvest treatment only.
  • Do not apply more than two post-harvest applications per growing season.

Celery:

  • Maximum of 4 applications per season.
  • Do not make 2 sequential applications

Grape:

  • Do not apply more than 2 applications per season.
  • Do not apply more than 530 mL of product per hectare per season.
  • Do not spray alternate rows.  Agri-Mek® SC must be applied to both sides of each row for maximum coverage.
  • Agri-Mek® SC must be applied with a non-ionic surfactant to improve wetting of foliage and to smooth out spray deposits.  Spreading and penetrating surfactants can improve insect control. Do not use binder or sticker-type surfactants.  Although Agri-Mek® SC has been tested in combination with a non-ionic surfactant for safety to grapes, it is impossible to test on all grape varieties under the variety of conditions that may cause crop injury.  Therefore, when using Agri-Mek® SC in combination with a non-ionic surfactant, carefully follow the Directions for Use and Precautions on the non-ionic surfactant label and in official spray guides.

Pear: Do not exceed 340 mL Agri-Mek® SC per hectare in a growing season.

Potato: Do not exceed 450 mL Agri-Mek® SC per hectare in a growing season.

Strawberry: Do Not apply more than 450 mL of product per hectare per season (includes pre-harvest and post-harvest applications).

Precaution: Adjuvant products formulated with binder or sticker type components may reduce the performance of Agri-Mek® SC.

  • Proper adjuvant use is required on all crops to avoid illegal crop residues.  Follow the crop specific directions for use to achieve thorough coverage and avoid illegal crop residues.
  • Do not use in orchards interplanted with other crops.
  • Do not Apply by Air
  • Do not apply through any type of irrigation equipment.
  • Do not apply during periods of dead calm or when wind velocity and direction pose a risk of spray drift.
  • Do not spray when the wind is blowing towards a nearby sensitive crop, garden, terrestrial habitat (such as shelter-belt) or aquatic habitat.
  • Do not allow livestock to graze treated crops or in treated orchards.
  • As this product is not registered for the control of pests in aquatic systems, DO NOT use to control aquatic pests.
  • Do not contaminate irrigation or drinking water supplies or aquatic habitats by cleaning of equipment or disposal of wastes.

Crop Safety

Thorough coverage is essential for good mite and insect control. Consult the crop specific Directions for Use on the label.

Certain crops require application of 0.25-1% v/v horticultural oil in the spray mixture or 10-20 L of horticultural oil per hectare.  Other crops require 0.1-0.5% v/v NIS (non-ionic surfactant) in the spray mixture.  In all cases, use either the adjuvant rate as specified on the adjuvant label, or the values given here, whichever is more restrictive.

Since Agri-Mek® SC must always be mixed with a spray adjuvant as instructed in the directions above, and spray adjuvants alone are known to cause phytotoxicity to certain crops under certain environmental conditions, Do Not use Agri-Mek® SC on a spray-adjuvant sensitive crop unless the spray adjuvant supplier can confirm a known non-phytotoxic labeled use rate for the intended spray adjuvant on the target crop.

Agri-Mek® SC in combination with Superior “70” Oil may cause fruit injury to certain varieties of apples, e.g., russetting on light-skinned varieties such as Golden Delicious, when used alone or when other products are applied sequentially.  The Directions for Use and Precautions on spray oil labels, as well as precautions in official Spray Guides, should be followed carefully when tank mixing with Agri-Mek® SC.

Pear and Apple Specific Precaution: Always tank mix AGRI-MEK SC with a spray oil registered for use on pears and apples.

Grape Specific Precaution: Although Agri-Mek® SC has been tested in combination with a non-ionic surfactant for safety to grapes, it is impossible to test on all grape varieties under the variety of conditions that may cause crop injury.  Therefore, when using Agri-Mek® SC in combination with a non-ionic surfactant, carefully follow the Directions for Use and Precautions on the non-ionic surfactant label and in official spray guides.

Tank Mixes

Wales: L (SC) Suspension concentrate

Pear and Apple Specific Precaution: Always tank mix Agri-Mek® SC with a spray oil registered for use on pears and apples.

For tank mixes, consult the labels of the tank-mix partners and observe the largest (most restrictive) buffer zone of the products involved in the tank mixture and apply using the coarsest spray (ASAE) category indicated on the labels for those tank mix partners.

The Directions for Use and Precautions on spray oil labels, as well as precautions in official Spray Guides, should be followed carefully when tank mixing with Agri-Mek® SC.

Resistance Management

For resistance management, please note that Agri-Mek® SC contains a Group 6 insecticide.  Any insect population may contain individuals naturally resistant to Agri-Mek® SC and other Group 6 insecticides.  The resistant individuals may dominate the insect population if this group of insecticide is used repeatedly in the same field.  Other resistance mechanisms that are not linked to site of action but are specific for individual chemicals, such as enhanced metabolism, may also exist. Appropriate resistance-management strategies should be followed.

To delay insecticide resistance:

Where possible, rotate the use of Agri-Mek® SC or other Group 6 insecticides with different groups that control the same pests in a field.

Use tank mixtures with miticides/insecticides from a different group when such use is permitted.  Avoiding treatment of successive generations with abamectin-containing products.

Insecticide use should be based on an IPM program that includes scouting, record keeping, and considers cultural, biological and other chemical control practices.

Monitor treated pest populations for resistance development.

Contact your local extension specialist or certified crop advisors for any additional pesticide resistance-management and/or IPM recommendations for the specific site and pest problems in your area.
