Our Work Matters

Working for Syngenta offers you the opportunity to play a part in addressing one of the most urgent challenges facing global agriculture today: how to feed more people in a sustainable way.

World population is expected to grow by more than 2 billion to 8 billion by 2030, a rise of 30%. Moreover, changing diets and an increased calorie intake mean farmers will need to increase their output by even more. Agricultural land and water are limited, so farmers must raise yields from limited natural resources in an environmentally sustainable way.

Technological innovation is vital to increasing the production and quality of crops. By releasing the potential of plants, our innovative crop protection products and seeds are helping to address these global challenges: through increasing yields and reducing losses from pests and disease, our products help farmers grow more food from existing land. Without crop protection products, around 40% of the world's crops would be lost to pests and diseases.

We work closely with growers and partners globally to create sustainable solutions for the future. For instance, we encourage farmers across the world to use our products alongside sustainable farming practices by using the best available resources, protecting and enhancing biodiversity, and conserving soil and water. As a result, we bring increased prosperity and a better quality of life to rural communities.

Here in Canada, we have been running Stewardship meetings, recognizing that we have a strong role to play in educating farmers in how our products are used safely. When used according to the label directions, our pesticides have a valuable place in the Integrated Pest Management plan on Canadian farms.

These meetings are information sessions for farmers and build on the mandatory certification Canadian farmers must take in order to apply pesticide products. Syngenta is one of the few companies that take this additional step in ensuring its products are used safely.

Additionally, our Territory Managers arrange for our customers to have calibration tests on spraying equipment used to apply a crop protection product. This service included the calibration and full inspection of spray equipment. A properly calibrated and inspected sprayer ensures optimum coverage of the crop and the protection of the environment from over-spraying and poorly functioning equipment.
