General FAQs
How do I know if I should spray my canola field?
A good rule of thumb is that if the field is one you want to show off to family and friends, it’s likely a good candidate for Reglone
® Ion desiccant. Get that great crop in the bin earlier and more efficiently. Reglone Ion is a good desiccation choice for canola fields that:
- Are seeded to a pod-shatter variety
- Have a good plant stand leading to uniform maturity that will assist in easier staging
- Have low weed populations after herbicide application(s)
- Have minimal disease and/or insect damage throughout the growing season

How do I know if I should spray my pulse crop?
As pulses are indeterminate crops, waiting for them to naturally dry down so they can be combined and binned safely can take precious time. Prolonged time in the field leaves pulses vulnerable to weather that can lead to yield losses due to hail or wind, or quality losses due to bleaching or lodging. Reglone Ion can get the pulse crop in the bin sooner.
How long does drydown take?
Under normal conditions and bright sunlight, it will take between 4 and 10 days to dry down a plant. Drydown length is determined by the length of daylight and environmental conditions after application. The crop will take longer to dry down with shorter day length (less daylight), and the cooler and more humid the conditions are.
I have a very weedy field. Will Reglone Ion kill my weeds and dry down my crop?
Reglone Ion is a contact herbicide – it will not translocate into the roots of weeds. Glyphosate can be used in very weedy fields*. Wait 5 days to apply Reglone.

What’s the difference between using Reglone Ion vs. glyphosate pre-harvest?
Reglone Ion is a true desiccant; it works differently than glyphosate alone to dry down a crop. Here’s a guide to help you in your decision to spray canola:
Product | Primary driver | Application timing | Dry down time |
---|
Reglone Ion | Fast crop dry down | 90%+ brown seed | Fastest option - harvest when dry |
Glyphosate alone | Perennial weed control | Majority of seeds yellow to brown; <30% moisture | Weather dependent - up to three weeks |
Glyphosate + Heat® LQ | Perennial weed control and crop dry down | 75% seed colour change | 14-21 days |
Weather
What is the rainfastness of Reglone Ion?
The rainfastness for Reglone Ion is 15 minutes or once it's dry on the plant.
It’s overcast, and it’s going to rain. Should I spray?
It would be better to wait until after the rain and the crop is dry to ensure that you have a more consistent and even drydown of your crop.
It got down to 0°C last night. Can I still spray this morning?
Wait until this evening, provided that the temperature gets above 10°C for a couple of hours during the day, to give the plants a chance to recover from a light frost.
It’s going to be hot today. Can I still spray Reglone Ion?
While it’s OK to spray Reglone Ion when temperatures are hot, usually temperatures are hot under high light intensity conditions. The best time of day to apply Reglone Ion is in the evening, early morning, or when it’s cloudy outside. Reglone Ion activity is enabled by photosynthesis. Spraying in these low light scenarios (cloudy days, evenings) gives the product time to spread over the plant before activation.

How much surfactant do I use with Reglone Ion?
You do not need to add surfactant when preparing Reglone Ion. Reglone Ion has the surfactant built in.

What is the best water volume to apply Reglone Ion with?
We recommend at least 20 gal/ac of water to ensure maximum plant coverage when ground spraying. An aerial application should use 4.0 gal/acre. In both cases, these rates refer to imperial gallons.
Any other sprayer tips for using Reglone Ion?
Maintain a slow, steady speed. Optimal boom/spray nozzle height is 20 inches above the canopy. Optimize the sprayer nozzle pattern for good canopy penetration.
What is the pre-harvest interval with Reglone Ion? Are there any grazing restrictions?
You can combine as soon as the crop has dried down. There are also no grazing restrictions with Reglone Ion.
I’ve mixed up a tank of Reglone Ion, but now it’s starting to rain. How long can it sit in the tank?
With clean water and a clean spray tank, Reglone Ion can sit for three days with periodic daily agitation.
