Syngenta launches Axial Xtreme iPak herbicide for control of challenging grass and broadleaf weeds in spring wheat and barley

Syngenta Canada Inc. is pleased to announce the introduction of Axial® Xtreme iPak™ herbicide for control of hard-to-manage grass and broadleaf weeds in spring wheat (excluding durum) and barley.

Axial Xtreme iPak™ is a co-pack of Axial Xtreme herbicide (pinoxaden, Group 1; fluroxypyr, Group 4) and Infinity® herbicide (bromoxynil, Group 6; pyrasulfotole, Group 27). It controls wild oats, barnyard grass, green foxtail, chickweed, cleavers, hemp nettle, kochia (including Group 2-resistant biotypes), wild buckwheat, and volunteer canola.

“Axial Xtreme iPak™ is a comprehensive product,” says Jon Habok, Product Lead for Cereal and Non-Selective Herbicides. “One application delivers four active ingredients to control some of the toughest weeds in spring wheat and barley, reducing weed competition to help the crop reach its yield potential.”

With a wide application window that spans the one leaf to early flag leaf stages of the crop and the one to six leaf stages of grass and broadleaf weeds, Axial Xtreme iPak™ gives growers flexibility when planning their weed control program.

It also works fast, stopping the growth of actively growing susceptible grasses within 48 hours of application.

“Axial Xtreme iPak™ offers growers the added convenience of moving the sprayer between spring wheat and barley fields without having to clean the tank and switch products between crops,” Habok says.

As per the labels, Axial Xtreme iPak™ should be applied at a rate of 0.5 L/acre of Axial Xtreme and 0.335 L/acre of Infinity®.

Axial Xtreme iPak™ will be available for the 2019 growing season, replacing Axial iPak™ herbicide. It will be sold in a co-pack containing 10 L of Axial Xtreme + 6.7 L of Infinity® to treat 20 acres, and a bulk co-pack containing 80 L of Axial Xtreme + 53.6 L of Infinity® to treat 160 acres.
