Seed Treatment

Application Information

  • Apply using an appropriate treater designed for treating potatoes or by dust attachment over the belt.
  • Cut pieces should be treated immediately after cutting. After cutting, treated seed pieces should be planted in soil above 7°C with adequate soil moisture required for planting.
  • If cut seed needs to be stored or held for a few days, make sure that there is adequate cool air (15.5°C) movement through the pile of cut seed potatoes at a relative humidity of 85-90%. Cut and treated seed should not be piled above 1.8 m in height.
  • Do not store treated seed in an unventilated area such as a transport truck or crate.
  • When transporting cut and treated seed, make sure the seed is covered.

Chemistry Group

Group 12 and M-3 fungicides

Mode of Action

Maxim MZ PSP is formulated with fludioxonil and mancozeb. Fludioxonil belongs to the class of chemical compounds called phenylpyrroles, naturally occurring angifungal compounds. Mancozeb belongs to the class of chemical compounds that have Multi-Site activity and are generally considered as a low risk group in terms of resistance development.

Resistance Management

To delay fungicide resistance:

Where possible, rotate the use of MAXIM MZ PSP Fungicide or other Group 12 and Group M3 fungicides with different groups that control the same pathogens. Fungicide use should be based on an IPM program that includes scouting, historical information related to pesticide use and crop rotation and considers cultural, biological and other chemical control practices.

Monitor treated fungal populations for resistance development.

If disease continues to progress after treatment with this product, do not increase the use rate. Discontinue use of this product, and switch to another fungicide with a different target site of action, if available.

Contact your local extension specialist or certified crop advisors for any additional pesticide resistance-management and/or IPM recommendations for specific crops and pathogens.

For further information and to report suspected resistance, contact Syngenta Crop Protection Canada, Inc. at 1-87-SYNGENTA (1-877-964-3682) or at www.syngenta.ca.
