Downy mildew (Sclerophthora macrospora (wheat); Peronospora manshurica (soybean) )

Downy Mildew

Downy mildew: biology

Soil-borne and probably seed-borne inoculum lead to systemic infection. Stubble-borne inoculum and secondary spread during the growing season result in leaf lesions. Cool wet weather favors spread.

Downy mildew: damage description

Damage is usually limited. However, when extensive systemic infection occurs, combined with favorable weather for spread, stand thinning and loss of photosynthetic leaf area may cause substantial yield loss.
