About this Product

Phytophthora root rot control in ginseng

Applied as a drench prior to crop emergence, Orondis® Gold fungicide provides control of Phytophthora root rot in ginseng. Orondis Gold combines metalaxyl-M (FRAC Group 4) with oxathiapiprolin (FRAC Group 49). Oxathiapiprolin is an active ingredient with a novel mode of action that targets water-mould diseases like Phytophthora specifically.  It is the only fungicide in FRAC Group 49.

Product Benefits

  • Provides residual disease control
  • Readily absorbed by the roots and provides protection against disease under varied weather conditions
  • Contains the only Group 49 fungicide on the market and has no cross-resistance to other fungicides

Packaging

Each case of Orondis Gold contains 2 x 2.10 L of Orondis Gold A and 2 x 1.32 L of Orondis Gold B. The standard use rate of Orondis Gold is 10 acres/case.

Uses

For use on:

  • Ginseng

For management of:

  • Phytophthora root rot

Scouting for Phytophthora in ginseng

Where: Low lying areas or areas that tend to hold water. Also check along the shoulder of the spray row beds where compaction occasionally occurs.

What to look for: Wilted tops on ginseng plants in low lying areas. When dug, infected roots have a sour vinegar smell and are often quite wet.

How to control:
  • Encourage air flow through gardens.
  • Avoid poorly drained sites, on heavy clay soils and in low-lying areas.
  • If disease is found in one garden, disinfect equipment, shoes and hands before moving into another planting.
  • For small, infected areas, completely remove and destroy affected plants. Consider also removing what appear to be healthy plants on either side of the visually infected area. Often Phytophthora will have spread farther than it appears by looking at the tops of plants.
  • Use Orondis Gold fungicide in early spring when soil is warm. Later in the season, make multiple applications of fungicides with different modes of action, both through foliar and drench/broadcast, to stay ahead of the disease. Ensure different groups of chemistry are rotated to avoid resistance. Ridomil Gold® 1G fungicide can be applied to a garden that has been treated with Orondis Gold after the application of a fungicide with a different mode of action.

Application Information

Use Rates

The standard use rate of Orondis Gold is 10 acres/case.

Orondis Gold A rate: 0.7 – 2.8 L/ha.  Standard rate: 1.04 L/ha
Orondis Gold B rate: 0.65 L/ha

Water Volume

Apply Orondis Gold using a very high water volume (>100 GPA or 2500L/ha). And if possible, try to apply just prior to a good rain event.

Application Method

Drench

Application Information

  • In order to protect the roots, Orondis Gold must be applied prior to plant emergence.
  • Time the application prior to rainfall or irrigation to help move Orondis Gold into the rhizosphere.
  • Do not use Orondis Gold through chemigation or drip irrigation.
  • Both products (Orondis A and Orondis B) must be in a tank-mix and applied at the same time.

Mixing Order

Shake jugs well before use. Always tank mix components. Orondis Gold A should be added to the tank and more water should be added to the tank before adding Orondis Gold B. DO NOT pre-mix the products and then add to the tank.

Use Restrictions

Before making Orondis Gold a part of your disease management program, it’s important to understand a few key guidelines:

  • Apply Orondis Gold A and Orondis Gold B in a tank-mix at the same time.
  • Orondis Gold must be applied preventively.
  • Do not apply Orondis Gold more than once a year.

Technical Information

Chemistry Group

Orondis Gold A is a Group 49 fungicide.
Orondis Gold B is a Group 4 fungicide.

Mode of Action

Both Orondis Gold A and B are systemic active ingredients and protect ginseng plant from the inside out. Ginseng growers should do everything they can to insure that the active ingredients are taken up by the roots of growing ginseng plants – paying particular attention to sufficient water availability to roots at time of application.

Resistance Management

There is an increasing threat of Phytophthora fungicide resistance so do your part to guard against resistance!

  • Rotate chemistries with different modes of action.
  • Use the one-two-three punch to target the disease at different stages in the life cycle.
  • Follow labeled rates and maximum application guidelines.
  • Calibrate spreaders and sprayers to ensure accurate applications
