About this Product

Give your corn crops the best possible start

Primextra® II Magnum® keeps fields clean so emerging corn can perform to its full yield potential. Tank mix with Callisto® for a one-pass Foundation Acre® treatment, or make an application of Primextra II Magnum followed by Callisto plus glyphosate* or Callisto GT* for a two-pass approach.

*In glyphosate tolerant corn only

Product Benefits

  • Consistent residual weed control for up to 14 weeks after application.
  • Unsurpassed crop safety.
  • Safe for your crop rotation: Primextra II Magnum binds to the soil and stays there to fight weeds throughout the season, but it is broken down in the soil long before you're ready to re-plant.

Packaging

  • Each case contains 2 x 10 L jugs
  • 450 L totes
  • Bulk

Uses

For use on:

  • Field corn
  • Seed corn
  • Sweet corn

For management of:

  1. Some naturally occurring triazine-tolerant biotypes of these weeds may not be controlled.
  2. When tank mixed with Callisto (pre-emergence only).
  3. Pre-plant incorporated treatment only. Extended periods of dry weather following application may result in reduced nutsedge control.

Application Information

Use Rates

  • 1.0-1.6 L/ac
  • The 1.0 L/ac rate is for field corn only to provide early season weed control through the critical crop establishment phase when used at the SPP, PPI or PRE timing.

Water Volume

Minimum 15 ga/ac (150 L/ha)

Alternatively Primextra II Magnum can be mixed and applied in liquid fertilizer e.g.28%

Application Method

Ground

Application Information

Application Timing

  • Surface pre-plant (up to 30 days before planting)
  • Pre-plant incorporated
  • Pre-emergence and early post-emergence (from planting to 2-leaf Corn)
  • Post-emergence (3- to 6-leaf Corn)

Precautions

  • For a tank mix with glyphosate, a surfactant such as Agral® 90 or Ag-Surf must be used at a rate of 0.5% v/v. Add the surfactant to the tank before adding the glyphosate.
  • Primextra II Magnum is registered up to the 6-leaf stage of corn. However, grasses beyond the 2-leaf stage at time of application will not be controlled by a Primextra II Magnum treatment alone.

Mixing Order

WALES Symbol: L

  1. Fill tank half full of carrier – begin agitation and continue throughout the process.
  2. Add Primextra II Magnum and allow the herbicide to be fully mixed – approximately 5 minutes.
  3. Fill tank 3/4 full of carrier.
  4. Add surfactant and allow time for the surfactant to be fully mixed – approximately 5 minutes.
  5. Add glyphosate, if desired.
  6. Completely fill tank with carrier.
  7. Do not let stand without agitation.

A tank mix of Primextra II Magnum and glyphosate requires the use of a surfactant to improve tank mix compatibility. A glyphosate product can provide excellent burndown of emerged weeds, while Primextra II Magnum provides excellent residual control of annual weeds with complete crop safety.

Keys to successful mixing:

  1. Use only a nonylphenoxy polyethoxy ethanol surfactant e.g. ACTIVATE PLUS™, Agral 90® or AgSurf®.
  2. For tank mixing with glyphosate, 0.3% v/v (3L per 1000L) surfactant can be used. Mixing rates may vary by glyphosate brand. Consult the product label.
  3. Follow the correct mixing order (see above for instructions).
  4. Ensure each component of the spray mix is adequately mixed before adding the next component. Maintain agitation at all times.

Effects of Weather

  • For pre-emergent applications, ½” of rainfall over one or two close rain events is required within 10 days of application
  • A shallow cultivation or use of a rotary hoe is necessary if sufficient rainfall does not occur as above.
  • On sandy soils, heavy rainfall following an incorporated treatment may move the herbicide out of the zone of activity.

Use Restrictions

  • Restricted-entry interval (REI): 12 hours
  • Do not apply by air.
  • Freedom to rotate to soybeans, white beans, corn, oats or barley the following year.

Rainfastness

1-2 hours

Tank Mixes

  • Primextra II Magnum at 1.2-1.6 L/ac (SPP, PPI, PRE, Early Post, Post3)
    • + Callisto1 at 0.12 L/ac (PRE, Early Post)
    • + glyphosate at 0.72 L/ac (SPP, PRE, Early Post)
  • Primextra II Magnum2 at 1.0 L/ac (SPP, PPI, PRE)
    • + glyphosate3,4 at 0.72 L/ac (Post)
    • Optional follow up application of Callisto at 0.085 L/ac (Post)

1. This tank mix can be used on Sweet corn or Seed corn for the PRE timing only.
2. This rate is for Field corn only and is intended to provide early season weed suppression through the critical crop establishment phase when used at the SPP, PPI or PRE timing. It should be used in a planned weed management program with a sequential post-emergent herbicide application.
3. Do not apply beyond 6-leaf stage of Corn.
4. For use on glyphosate tolerant Corn ONLY.

A tank mix of Primextra II Magnum and glyphosate requires the use of a surfactant to improve tank mix compatibility. See the Mixing Order section under Application Information for details.

Primextra II Magnum can also be applied using liquid fertilizer as a carrier for surface pre-plant, pre-plant incorporated or pre applications.
See label instructions for special mixing instructions with glyphosates.

Consult the label of the product to be tank mixed with Primextra II Magnum for specific instructions regarding broadleaf weeds, soil type variations, and rotational crops, grazing or other restrictions.

Refer to the label for a complete list of tank mix partners.

Technical Information

Chemistry Group

Group 5 and 15 herbicides

Mode of Action

Primextra II Magnum contains two active weed control ingredients - S-Metolachlor and Atrazine.

These ingredients are taken up by the shoots and roots of the plants. In annual grasses and yellow nutsedge, the shoots are the primary site of uptake for S-Metolachlor, while in broadleaf weeds it enters via the roots and shoots. Atrazine is actively absorbed by roots and foliage, and acts by blocking photosynthesis, thereby stopping energy for growth.

Both ingredients effectively inhibit weed growth by translocating to the weed's growth points and restricting shoot and root development. With S-Metolachlor weeds fail to emerge, weed seedlings are deformed, they suffer from trapped leaves, or leaves emerge underground. Atrazine stops the growth of seedling weeds.

Resistance Management

Primextra II Magnum Herbicide is both a Group 5 and a Group 15 herbicide. Any weed population may contain or develop plants naturally resistant to Primextra II Magnum Herbicide and other Group 5 and/or Group 15 herbicides. Use tank mixtures or follow up with post-emergent herbicides from a different group when such use is permitted.
