About this Product

Ridomil Gold® 1G is a systemic fungicide for the control of Phytophthora root rot caused by Phytophthora cactorum in ginseng, cavity spot in carrots, and damping off and stunt in head lettuce.

Product Benefits

  • A fungicide with systemic action
  • Formulated as a granular to penetrate through thick canopies and straw beds to protect the roots

Packaging

Ridomil Gold 1G is available in 11.34 kg bags. At the ginseng rate of 12.5 kg per acre, each bag will treat approximately 0.91 of an acre.

Uses

For use on:

  • Ginseng
  • Carrots
  • Head lettuce

For management of:

Phytophthora root rot of ginseng is caused by the fungus Phytophthora cactorum.  Phytophthora root rot can result in considerable losses by directly killing plants or making the roots unmarketable. Roots which have been attacked by the disease develop creamy white "toothpaste-like" soft interior. The surface of the root may be discoloured, pale tan to brown. Infections may occur anywhere on the root surface and eventually may destroy the root entirely. Tiny strands of the fungus growing into the surrounding soil may cause soil particles to adhere to the root. In the foliar phase of the disease (Phytophthora blight) the leaves develop dark green, water-soaked spots which rapidly enlarge. The affected leaves collapse and hang from the upright stem. The root rot disease is spread by spores which can move from plant to plant in free water or by fungal hyphae which grow through the soil. The foliar disease is spread by airborne spores. Disease development appears to be favoured by cool, moist conditions. The disease often occurs in heavier, poorly drained soils or along the edge of beds where water may pool. The fungus persists in gardens allowing the disease to build in severity from year to year.

Ridomil Gold 1G also controls cavity spot in carrots, and damping off and stunt in head lettuce.

Use Rates

GINSENG: Apply at the rate of 31.25 kg of Ridomil Gold 1G fungicide per hectare (12.5 kg per acre). Make one application in the spring just prior to the time the plants begin growing. Make a second application six weeks later and a third application six weeks after the second one. Do not apply within 9 days of harvest. Do not make more than 3 applications per year including other products that contain metalazyl-m.

CARROTS & HEAD LETTUCE: Apply Ridomil Gold 1G fungicide in the seed furrow at the rate of 25 kg per treated hectare at the time of planting. Ensure that the product is applied evenly with the seed in the seed furrow. See the label for calibration and application recommendations for use on carrots and head lettuce.

Application Method

Ground, Seed Treatment

Application Information

GINSENG: Apply Ridomil Gold 1G fungicide uniformly as a broadcast application to the mulched beds of ginseng, using a suitable granular spreader. Make one application in the spring just prior to the time the plants begin growing. Make a second application six weeks later and a third application six weeks after the second one. Do not apply within 9 days of harvest.

Resistance Management

For resistance management, please note that Ridomil Gold 1G contains a Group 4 fungicide. Any fungal population may contain individuals naturally resistant to Ridomil Gold 1G and other Group 4 fungicides. A gradual or total loss of pest control may occur over time if these fungicides are used repeatedly in the same fields. Other resistance mechanisms that are not linked to site of action but specific for individual chemicals, such as enhanced metabolism, may also exist. Appropriate resistance management strategies should be followed. To delay fungicide resistance:

  • Where possible, rotate the use of Ridomil Gold 1G or other Group 4 fungicides with different groups that control the same pathogens.
  • Avoid making more than 3 (three) consecutive applications of Ridomil Gold 1G or other fungicides in the same group in a season.
  • Fungicide use should be based on an IPM program that includes scouting, historical information related to pesticide use and crop rotation and considers cultural, biological and other chemical control practices.
  • Monitor treated fungal populations for sign of resistance development. If disease continues to progress after treatment with this product, do not increase the use rate. Discontinue use of this product, and switch to another fungicide with a different target site of action, if available.
  • Contact your local extension specialist or certified crop advisors for any additional pesticide resistance-management and/or IPM recommendations for specific crops and disease problems in your area.
