There are five core components of an effective application strategy for Miravis® Bold fungicide in canola.

1.    Surfactant use
When applying Miravis® Bold on canola, it’s critical to add a non-ionic surfactant at a rate of 0.125% v/v in the spray tank. Studies show that when Miravis® Bold is combined with an adjuvant at the labeled rate, there is a dramatic increase in the retention of active ingredient on canola, offering maximum protection against Sclerotinia

2.    Spray volume
The Miravis® Bold label requires a minimum of 100 L/ha carrier volume for canola. However, if you have the water and the time, 150 L/ha will deliver better overall coverage to the flowers as well as the upper and mid canopies.
If you apply Miravis® Bold by air, 50 L/ha is the labeled carrier volume. This rate is ideal because most sprays coming from a fixed or rotary wing aircraft are quite small by the time the droplets get into the canopy. Small droplets move randomly instead of in a straight line the way large ones do, and that randomness helps increase coverage potential for good efficacy.

3.    Boom height
Ensure that your boom is appropriately low in order to hit the target effectively.

4.    Travel speed
Maintain a moderate travel speed to achieve even application across the entire target. A moderate speed will help avoid a spray shadow, which happens when the amount of deposition on the forward half of a crop is different compared to the rear-facing half.

5.    Water-sensitive paper
Verify where the spray is going to ensure the crop is adequately covered. In order to protect canola against Sclerotinia, you need to hit petals, leaf bases, axils, and stems. Confirm coverage by using water-sensitive paper.
