A new option in soybean Seedcare
March 9, 2022
Vayantis® IV is our next generation base fungicide soybean seed treatment containing four active ingredients, including the novel and extremely efficacious active picarbutrazox.
The combination of these A.I.s in a high-quality formulation provides comprehensive performance against a wide range of early season seed and seedling diseases, including the broadest Pythium and Phytophthora protection available.
Check out this two-minute video to learn from Joe Vink (National Seedcare Account Manager) and Scott Snyder (Seedcare Specialist):
Why do we need better Phytophthora protection when we have resistant genetics?
As with any disease, resistance management is something that should be top of mind, so combining effective genetics with an effective seed treatment will help preserve both technologies for future use in the industry.
There are close to 24 pathotypes of Phytophthora sojae in Ontario, and more than 95 percent of the industry genetics only act on about half of those. To read more about the pathotypes, see this Canadian Journal of Plant Pathology article.
In Ontario, the Phytophthora pathotypes that are becoming predominant are the ones that are unaffected by the resistance commonly found in our genetics today.
You should be concerned, even If you’ve never seen Phytophthora damage
Just because you haven't seen it, doesn't mean it isn't there.
Notice in the photo below how root mass was significantly reduced due to Phytophthora even though the seed was treated with Vibrance® Maxx RFC, while the aboveground impact was minimal. In the other photo, Vayantis® IV offered excellent protection to deliver a robust root system that enabled optimal nutrient and water uptake. The power of your Seedcare™ choice in action!

Seedling diseases can be a problem in light soils too
While lighter soils tend to receive less pressure from seedling diseases like Phytophthora, the disease can still be present and may reduce stands initially during a wet spring. If the weather patterns are conducive later in the season, we can see late season infection that will cause more visual damage and significant yield losses.
With all of the rainfall in 2021, this was common across Ontario.
Application tips
As with any soybean seed treating combination, we find best coverage/appearance results are achieved when a total application volume of 325 mL/100 kg is used.

Performance evaluations are based on internal trials, field observations and/or public information. Data from multiple locations and years should be consulted whenever possible. Individual results may vary depending on local growing, soil, and weather conditions. Always read and follow label directions.
