Looking for annual broadleaf control in corn?
April 13, 2023
Add Callisto® 480SC herbicide to your in-crop glyphosate application.
If glyphosate will control my escapes, why use Callisto too?
Callisto 480SC is an excellent resistance management tool and can provide an additional mode of action with your glyphosate application. Callisto 480SC will also provide several weeks of residual activity against labelled weeds with an activating rainfall.
Interesting fact: In southern Australia, a tree called Callistemon citrinus (Crimson bottlebrush) releases a very special compound from its roots. This naturally occurring molecule stops the growth of other plants that would compete with the tree for sunshine, moisture and nutrients. This chemical is the foundation that Syngenta scientists used to create mesotrione, the active ingredient in Callisto 480 SC herbicide.
How does Callisto 480SC work to kill weeds?
Callisto 480SC moves in the xylem with water and through the phloem with photosynthate and will accumulate in the growing points. The product is absorbed through roots, shoots, and foliage.
What problem weeds can Callisto 480SC help me with this year and next?
Callisto 480SC is designed to control many annual broadleaf weeds including velvetleaf, pigweed and lamb’s-quarters. University of Guelph research has shown that Callisto 480SC, when tank mixed with AAtrex® Liquid 480 herbicide, is a valuable tool for managing other problem weeds in corn, including Canada fleabane and tufted vetch.

When should Callisto 480SC be applied on corn?
Callisto 480SC has excellent crop safety and can be applied pre-emergent up to the 8-leaf stage.
What is the application rate of Callisto 480SC?
For post application use 85 mL/ac.
Group 27 herbicides like Callisto 480SC benefit from the addition of atrazine. If no atrazine has been applied to the field yet, or if the weeds present are tolerant to glyphosate, add 0.25 L/ac of AAtrex Liquid 480 to this tank mix.
Do I need NIS?
When making a post-emergent application, always add a non-ionic surfactant (NIS) (i.e., Agral® 90) at 0.2% v/v. If tank mixing with glyphosate, you can lower this rate to 0.1% v/v.
Mixing orders?
Callisto 480SC > AAtrex Liquid 480 > NIS 0.2% v/v
Callisto 480SC > AAtrex Liquid 480 > NIS 0.1 %v/v > glyphosate
Callisto 480SC > NIS 0.1% v/v > glyphosate
Formulation:

What are the re-cropping restrictions for Callisto 480SC?
Winter wheat – three months
Spring wheat, corn (grain, seed or sweet) – 10 months
Alfalfa, potato, soybeans, transplanted tomato, white beans – 11 months
All other crops – field bioassay
What factors increase the carryover potential from Callisto 480SC?
- Low rainfall the year of application
- Soil pH less than 5.9
- Low soil organic matter (< 2%OM), which typically results in high carryover potential on high sand texture soils
- Heavy lime application (to raise soil pH) the year after application
- Overlap areas
