What’s the current situation?

  • According to the SCN Coalition, soybean cyst nematode (SCN) resistance to PI88788 is on the rise.
  • In Ontario, the organization reports 33% of SCN populations are showing elevated reproduction on PI88788 (>10% reproduction).
  • In the US Midwest, the situation is much worse.
  • It’s not too late to counter this road to resistance in Ontario.

What can I do to manage SCN resistance?

  • Take a soil test to find out if you have SCN.
  • Rotate resistant varieties. Rotating varieties with the same source of resistance is also helpful.
  • Rotate to non-host crops.
  • Consider using a seed treatment to add a second effective mode of action against SCN.

Which seed treatment should I choose?

We have two products available in 2023 that can provide that second mode of action to deliver SCN suppression for your soybeans: Draco™ and Saltro®. Read on to see which option is best for you:

DracoSaltro®
What does it do?
  • Partial suppression of SCN and Rhizoctonia
  • Improves water use efficiency (WUE)
  • Suppression of SCN
  • Control of sudden death syndrome (SDS)
What is it?
  • Dual-strain bacteria biological seed treatment
  • Active ingredients: Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus licheniformis
  • SDHI seed treatment
  • Active ingredient: ADEPIDYN®
Yield impact
  • Healthier and stronger root system
  • Improved yield potential: 1.3 bu/ac average improvement in ON in 2021-2022 (n=25)
SDS - Suppresses late season symptoms of SDS (premature defoliation and reduced pod fill)
  • 4.3 bu/ac average improvement under heavy SDS/SCN pressure in ON from 2018-2020 (n=33)
SCN – Suppresses entry of nematodes and reduces cyst formation on roots.
  • 3.1 bu/ac average improvement under SCN pressure (n=10)
Treating highlights
  • 2 x 9.46 L cases
  • 1 jug treats approximately 600 units
  • 15.2 mL/seed unit (140,000 seeds) or approximately 76.2 mL/100 kg
  • 2 x 10 L cases
  • 1 jug treats approximately 400 units
  • 100 mL/100 kg seed
