Managing mites, psylla and other apple pests
May 25, 2022
As apples pull through bloom, we can start to think about pest management at petal fall. That’s where Minecto® Pro — a broad-spectrum insecticide/miticide registered for control of post-bloom pests – comes in.
Where does Minecto Pro fit in?
In apples, apply Minecto Pro after petal fall at 0.2 L/acre for control of both Lepidopteran pests and mites.
Be sure to check in with your local agronomist for timely updates on degree days, scouting reports, and thresholds.
What about Agri-Mek® SC insecticide?
In apples, if you’re only targeting mites, apply Agri-Mek after petal fall at a rate of 70 mL/acre or 4.5 mL/100 L water.
Again, remember to check in with your local agronomist for timely updates on degree days, scouting reports, and thresholds.

To help ensure uptake and efficiency:
- Focus on quality application and sufficient coverage.
- Apply to young, succulent leaves that have not hardened.
- Use an appropriate adjuvant.
A note on adjuvants
In apples, Minecto Pro needs an adjuvant to ensure thorough coverage and aid in penetration.
Horticulture spray oils are the preferred option for Minecto Pro, however, if you prefer to use an NIS, be sure to choose one that will improve penetration – binder or sticker types are insufficient.
