Blocking Botrytis in berries
April 3, 2024
Protect yield and quality in your berries
If wet weather threatens as bloom approaches, Botrytis will be top of mind, and you’ll be under added pressure to get the right product down at the right time.
For Botrytis, the pathogen resistance risk is high which is why pre-planning a fungicide program is important. Start planning now to build a spray program that rotates or mixes FRAC codes (mode of action groups) to manage Botrytis sustainably and keep tools in the toolbox.
Products, FRAC codes, and fungicide resistance risk
Syngenta has five Botrytis fungicides in the berry portfolio, and resistance risk varies depending on the product. To learn more about any of these brands, click the product logo to see the label.
*FRM = Fungicide Resistance Management.
**Not registered.
A key strategy for resistance management is the inclusion of low-risk Group M fungicides in your spray program. Bravo® ZNC and Allegro® nclude active ingredients that are classified as low risk for resistance by FRAC.
Lay a strong foundation with Miravis® Prime
In a field-scale demonstration, Miravis® Prime was applied at king bloom and June-bearing fruit was left on the counter for 4 days after harvest. Strawberries treated with Miravis® Prime had a longer shelf life than the grower’s standard program.
Photos captured in Windham, ON, in June 2020. One application at 1 L/ha was made at bloom within an overall spray program. Two pints of fruit were randomly harvested and stored at room temperature for four days before the photos were taken. In blueberries, Miravis
® Prime increased grower yield compared to the standard treatment:
Performance evaluations are based on internal trials, field observations and/or public information. Data from multiple locations and years should be consulted whenever possible. Individual results may vary depending on local growing, soil and weather conditions.
At time of publication, Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) had been established for the active ingredient pydiflumetofen for export markets in the United States. Please see the Foodchain ID Global MRL database for a complete list of MRLs. Should you need additional information on export market MRLs, please consult with Syngenta to receive the most up-to-date information.
