How do I stage my lentils for Reglone Ion application?

  1. Evaluate the field for overall colour change: The field should have an overall colour change to limey-green and yellow. Letting the pulse crop reach a stage of natural senescence before an application ensures success. Always use Reglone Ion as a finisher to ensure your crop dries down quickly and completely.
  2. Check the stems: Even a field that looks ready from the road might not be. If the stems are still bright green that is a sign you need to wait.
  3. Check pods and seeds: The bottom third of the plant’s seeds should be dry, pods will rattle and they will have completely changed colour. The middle third of the plant’s seeds should be mature and starting to turn colour (lime green) and they can be split with no juice. The top third of the plant may have seeds that will be bright green and juicy but may also be similar in colour to middle pods.

In green peas, spray when:

  • Average moisture content is no more than 45%, and the crop begins to take on an overall yellow appearance.
  • Upper pods are fleshy green or starting to turn yellow; seeds may be immature.
  • Middle pods are light green to yellow, somewhat shrunken and leathery; seeds are full size and soft, but not juicy, and split when squeezed.
  • Bottom pods are dry and translucent, and seeds are easily detached from them.

When is the best time to spray yellow peas with Reglone Ion?
In yellow peas, spray when:

  • There is early onset of colour change of the crop from green to yellow.
  • Top/upper middle pods are shrunken and leathery, and seeds split when squeezed.
  • Lower middle/bottom pods are dry, translucent and shrunken, and seeds within pods are detached.

Did you know? Yellow pea buyers have no tolerance for green seed. Desiccating too early can result in yield, grade and quality losses.
