Stacked cereals

Farming is a daily balancing act of time, energy, resources, and investments. Taking time to reflect on existing crop strategies and exploring new practices is a great way to identify potential efficiencies.

Winter wheat average has hovered 100 bu/ac for the past three years2

In Ontario, growers are managing their winter wheat more intensively, starting with fertility followed by improved planting practices and crop protection tools to manage disease1, resulting in an average 4.6 bu/ac increase in each of the last six years.2

According to The Great Lakes Yield Enhancement Network (YEN) from 2023-2024, participating Ontario growers who spent more per acre on their wheat, actually spend less per bushel because of their yield gains.

The Stacked Cereals™ portfolio is one approach to simplifying your cereal program to achieve, higher yield and optimal plant health by integrating stress management and growth regulators.

What solutions does the Stacked Cereals portfolio offer for stress and damage mitigation?

Stress caused by adverse conditions and disease is detrimental to the yield potential of cereal crops. The Stacked Cereals lineup offers a range of crop protection solutions to keep these stressors at bay.

It starts by giving every seed the best chance for emergence and strong stand establishment by protecting with Cruiser® Vibrance® Quattro and Vibrance Quattro seed treatments. These simple, all-in-one fungicide solutions protect your young cereals against a broad-spectrum of early-season seed- and soil-borne diseases, including Fusarium and Rhizoctonia, giving them the early-season advantage, healthy roots, and consistent plant stands that lead to higher yields.

Miravis® Neo fungicide provides long-lasting, powerful curative and preventative leaf disease management in cereals of septoria leaf blotch, tan spot, leaf rust, stripe rust, net blotch, spot blotch, barley scald, and crown rust. Between the 2021 and 2023 growing seasons, farmers have seen a return of 4.1 bu/ac with Miravis® Neo against Stratego® PRO fungicide at the T1 application stage.3

Miravis® Ace fungicide is effective in managing fusarium head blight (FHB) suppression in wheat, barley, and oats, as well as leaf diseases that occur later in the season. By preventing FHB infection, you reduce the production of mycotoxins such as deoxynivalenol (DON) that can limit your grain’s end uses and marketing potential. In high disease risk conditions, such as hot, humid, or wet weather during head emergence and flowering, Miravis® Ace continues to perform and protect your wheat crop.

Since its release in 2020, more than 1.5 million acres of Miravis® Ace have been sprayed in Eastern Canada. Trials show a 3.1 bu/ac advantage over the competition.4

In the biological space, Megafol® liquid foliar biostimulant helps mitigate abiotic stress caused by drought, heat, low temperatures, and physical damage. Comprised of vitamins, amino acids, proteins, betaines, and biomolecules, Megafol uses naturally derived ingredients that promote vegetative development and productivity. When applied in times of environmental stress, the synergistic actions of the betaines and amino acids allow plants to overcome the stress and improve growth.

Farmers have seen an average of 3.1 bu/ac advantage with Megafol compared to untreated checks across 18 Ontario comparisons over the last three seasons.5

Can the Stacked Cereals portfolio address time management concerns?

Time is one of your most valuable resources, especially around harvest. Moddus® plant growth regulator inhibits cell elongation for thicker, sturdier plant stems that can resist lodging. In addition to pushing your crop production and fertility use for a better yield, Moddus helps your crops stay standing longer, giving you greater flexibility around harvest. With fewer lodged stems, you can get your crop off the fields more efficiently. Miravis® Neo fungicide is a great product to partner with Moddus that will save you time.

Farmers have seen an average of 3.8 bu/ac advantage with Moddus against an untreated check across 57 comparisons in Ontario over three seasons.6
