Foundation Acre

There is a lot we don’t know about the future, but one thing is for certain: where there is soil, weeds are sure to follow.

Weeds are opportunistic and fierce resource competitors. They rely on the same vital resources as corn—space, light, water, nutrients—and inhibit your crop’s ability to achieve its best yield potential. To complicate matters, some weeds are more resilient than others, evolving to resist herbicides to ensure their survival.

Corn is susceptible to weed pressure early in the season, and the cost of weed competition adds up quickly. A study conducted from 2017 to 2019 found that significant corn losses can occur the longer the initial herbicide treatment is delayed.1 To avoid greater than 5% yield loss (10 bu/ac)2 under high weed pressure, weeds must be controlled before they are 4 inches high, within 11 days after crop emergence, and before the V3 growth stage.1

The Foundation Acre® portfolio of products addresses the growing need for flexible weed management solutions that defend corn fields against existing, emerging, and resistant yield-limiting weeds all season long. Developed to help corn growers formulate an effective one- or two-pass weed control system that factors in their primary target weeds and the needs of their farm, the Foundation Acre lineup features products with flexible pre- and post-emergence application timings for season-long performance. Long-lasting weed control allows farmers to manage risk when spraying conditions aren’t ideal.

Act sooner for stronger results later

Putting down effective residual herbicides helps limit the spread of current problem weeds, such as herbicide resistant Canada fleabane and waterhemp, and keeps future threats, like Palmer amaranth, from gaining a major foothold. By selecting herbicides with multiple and overlapping modes of action, you can reduce selection pressure for resistant weeds and delay resistance over the long term.

Implementing a Foundation Acre strategy will help keep your farm clean of the major resistant weeds, allowing for a more profitable cropping opportunity in future seasons and for future generations.

Cover all your bases

Corn’s competition doesn’t stop at weeds. Leaf diseases, Fusarium, and Gibberella ear rot can also impact your crop’s yield potential. Discover flexible, multi-action solutions for added corn defense.
