There’s nothing more rewarding than admiring a clean, healthy crop. The next step is a successful harvest and finishing the growing season strong with record breaking crop performance.

The challenge is, making it to the finish line with full, clean heads that stay upright.

Face lodging head on to protect crop quality

Unfortunately, the same conditions that result in favourable crop development and yield excellence can also cause lodging. Yield losses from lodging can vary, but lodged crops can lose up to 1 bu/ac/day.  Research also suggests that losses can be up to 40% if the lodging occurs within the 10 days after heading1.

Lodging exposes the crop to production risks like reduced grain quality, yield and secondary diseases. These can all add up to production constraints and serve a serious hit to a grower’s bottom line.

Plant growth regulators like Moddus® are useful tools in managing the risk of lodging by inhibiting production of the plant hormone, gibberellic acid. Gibberellic acid stimulates rapid stem and root growth, so limiting the amount available to a growing cereal plant reduces stem elongation, resulting in thicker, stronger stems that mitigate the likelihood of lodging.

Fusarium head blightKeep your crop green and clean for heavier heads and more yield

Once cereals are set up for success with the ability to support the weight of heavier heads, keeping the crop clean and green all season long to maximize grain fill is the next step. Protecting cereals from fusarium head blight, ergot and late season leaf diseases with the help of Miravis® brand fungicides will help ensure the crop not only stays standing, but can put its energy towards maximizing yield.

Deliver more marketable yield

ADEPIDYN® technology (the active ingredient in the Miravis® brand fungicides) not only provides powerful, long-lasting disease protection to keep your crop healthy, it delivers performance at the finish line by reducing the level of mycotoxin contamination, contributing to a higher grade and more marketable grain.

Selecting the right tools, applied at the right time throughout the season means cereals can finish strong and farmers can reap the rewards of higher yield achievement.
