Manitoba seeding is now about finished for the year.
The latest weekly crop report on Tuesday pegged overall seeding across the province at 99% complete, up 4 points on the week and ahead of 92% last year and 94% for the five-year average.
Precipitation the past week was described as variable, ranging from just over 2 mm in the Eden area to nearly 43 mm in Vivian.
The earliest seeded spring wheat fields are at the beginning of stem elongation, with the majority at 4 to 5 leaf and tillering, the report said. Oats and barley are at the 3- to 5-leaf stage and tillering. Most corn fields range from V2 to V4.
Canola ranges from just emerging to early rosette, with most of the crop at the 4-leaf stage. There is some flea beetle feeding, but most crops are outgrowing the damage. Flax and sunflower seeding is complete, and crops have emerged.
Field peas range from the 4 to 7 node stage. The most advanced soybeans are at the 2nd trifoliate. Some iron deficiency chlorosis is present in soybeans.
