Canadian producer deliveries of major grains dropped in November compared to a month earlier but remained well above last year.
Statistics Canada reported Wednesday that producers delivered 5.623 million tonnes of major grains last month. That’s down just over 1 million tonnes or 15.1% from the 6.626 million delivered in October, but still 14.2% above the 4.923 million tonnes delivered in November 2024.
September deliveries were the highest so far for the 2025-26 crop year at 7.315 million tonnes.
Major grains include wheat (excl durum), durum wheat, oats, barley, rye, flaxseed and canola.
Producer deliveries include grain that is destined for a primary elevator, feed mill, crushing plant or flour mill. This includes grain elevators that hold grain before it is exported, as well as shipments to U.S. markets that are not licensed by the Canadian Grain Commission.
Canola deliveries in November amounted to 1.62 million tonnes, down 21.2% from a month earlier but 11.1% above November 2024. Total wheat deliveries of 3.442 million tonnes dropped 6.1% on the month but were up 21% from a year ago. At 704,284 tonnes, November durum deliveries were 0.8% below a month earlier and almost 8% higher on the year.
November oat deliveries of 188,545 were down from 273,315 in October, below the November 2024 level of 268,684 and the lowest since May. Barley deliveries of 341,630 tonnes fell from 560,077 in October but were slightly above 338,057 in November 2024.
StatsCan cautioned the imposition of tariffs by the US may have an impact on producer deliveries of major grains in the coming months. In 2024, Canada exported a total of 4.5 million tonnes of wheat (excluding durum), durum wheat, oats, barley, rye, flaxseed and canola across the border.
