US Corn Condition Improves; Soybean Rating Declines 


The condition of the US corn crop improved this past week to match the year-earlier level, while the condition of the soybean crop slipped. 

Monday’s USDA crop progress report showed the national corn crop at 72% good to excellent as of Sunday, up a single point from the previous week and drawing even with last year for the first time in the 2025 growing season. On the other hand, the condition of the soybean crop fell 2 points on the week to 66% good to excellent as of Sunday, 4 points below a year earlier. 

Heading into the report, most traders and analysts were expecting both the corn and soybean crops to improve from the previous week. 

The condition of the Illinois corn crop improved 2 points from a week earlier to 70% good to excellent, while the state soybean rating improved 4 points to 63%. The Indiana corn crop was down 2 points on the week at 67% good to excellent as of Sunday, with the soy crop down a single point at 66%. The condition of the Iowa corn crop lost 1 point from a week earlier to 84%, but the state's soybean crop was unchanged at 80%. 

The Michigan corn crop improved 2 points from the previous week to 52% good to excellent as of Sunday, but the soybean crop fell a hefty 9 points to 48%. The Ohio corn crop held steady on the week at 58%, with the soybean crop up 1 point at 54%. 

The North Dakota corn and soybean crops were rated 64% and 63% good to excellent, respectively, compared to 61% and 66% a week earlier. 

Across the country, 87% of the corn crop had emerged as of Sunday, up from 87% the previous week, ahead of 92% last year and on par with the five-year average. 

National soybean planting advanced 3 points on the week to 93% complete as of Sunday, compared to 92% last year and 94% on average. An estimated 84% of the US soybean crop was reported to have emerged as of Sunday, up from 75% a week earlier and ahead of 80% last year and 83% on average.
