US Spring Wheat Harvest Nears One-Third Done 


Good progress this past week pushed the US spring wheat harvest to near one-third complete. 

According to Monday’s USDA crop progress report, 31% of the American spring wheat crop was in the bin as of Sunday, up 13 points from a week earlier but still slightly behind 35% last year and 36% on average. 

The Minnesota harvest jumped 22 points on the week to 31% done, versus 37% last year and 41% on average, while 38% of the Montana crop was off, up from 22% a week earlier and 5 points back of the state average. In the largest production state of North Dakota, the harvest reached 21% complete as of Sunday, up from 12% a week earlier and 5 points behind the state average. At 70% complete, the harvest in South Dakota advanced 16 points on the week and was a single point ahead of average. 

The US spring wheat crop was rated 73% good to excellent as of Sunday, up 1 point from the previous week and 35 points higher than a year ago. 

Meanwhile, the US winter wheat harvest inched up to 96% complete as of Sunday, an increase of 3 points from a week earlier and 1 point ahead of average. Only five of the 18 winter wheat reporting states still have crop left to come off, including both Montana and South Dakota.
