Need a boost for your annual broadleaf control? Callisto® 480 SC herbicide provides a highly effective mode of action for your in-crop glyphosate application.
Read on for expert answers to the most frequently asked Callisto 480 SC questions.
Q: If glyphosate controls my weed escapes, do I really need to use Callisto 480 SC too?
A: Callisto 480 SC herbicide is an excellent resistance management tool and can provide an additional mode of action with your glyphosate application. And with an activating rainfall, Callisto 480 SC also delivers several weeks of residual activity against labelled weeds.
Q: How does Callisto 480 SC work to kill weeds?
A: Callisto 480 SC is absorbed through roots, shoots, and foliage. From there, it moves within the xylem with water and through the phloem with photosynthate and will accumulate in the growing points.
Q: What problem weeds can Callisto 480 SC help me with?
A: Callisto 480 SC controls many of your toughest annual broadleaf weeds including velvetleaf, pigweed, and lamb’s-quarters.
University of Guelph research trials have shown that Callisto 480 SC, when tank mixed with
AAtrex® Liquid 480 herbicide, can be a valuable tool for managing other problem weeds in corn, including Canada fleabane and tufted vetch.
Ratings of Callisto 480 SC + AAtrex Liquid 480 herbicide 49 days after post-emergent application in 23 on farm trials produced the following results:
- Velvetleaf: 95% weed control
- Tufted vetch: 96% weed control
- Waterhemp: 97% weed control
- Canada fleabane: 91% at 120 mL/ac + atrazine, 82% at 85 mL/ac + atrazine

Population not resistant to group 27 herbicides.
Q: When should Callisto 480 SC be applied on corn?
A: Callisto 480 SC has excellent crop safety and can be applied pre-emergent up to the eight-leaf stage.
Q: What is the Callisto 480 SC application rate?
A: For post applications, use 85 mL/ac.
Group 27 herbicides like Callisto 480 SC benefit from the addition of atrazine. If no atrazine has been applied to the field yet, or if the weeds present are tolerant to glyphosate, add 0.25 L/ac of AAtrex Liquid 480 to this tank mix.
Q: Do I need a non-ionic surfactant (NIS)?
A: When making an application of Callisto 480SC to emerged weeds, always add a NIS (i.e., Agral
® 90) at 0.2% v/v. If tank mixing with glyphosate, NIS is still needed unless the glyphosate will take out emerged weeds and the Callisto 480SC is being applied for residual control only. When tank mixing with glyphosate, use 0.1% v/v NIS.
Q: In what order should Callisto 480 SC be mixed?
A: Follow the appropriate mixing order below:
- Callisto 480 SC > AAtrex Liquid 480 > NIS 0.2% v/v
- Callisto 480 SC > AAtrex Liquid 480 > NIS 0.1 %v/v > glyphosate
- Callisto 480 SC > NIS 0.1% v/v glyphosate
Formulation: Suspension concentrate (L in WALES)
Rainfast: 3 hours
Q: What are the re cropping restrictions for Callisto 480 SC?
A:
- Winter wheat: Three months
- Spring wheat, corn (grain, seed or sweet): 10 months
- Alfalfa, potato, soybean, transplanted tomato, white bean: 11 months
- All other crops: Conduct a field bioassay
Q: What factors increase the carryover potential from Callisto 480 SC?
A:
- Low rainfall the year of application
- Soil pH less than 6.5
- Low soil organic matter (<2%OM)
- Heavy lime application (to raise soil pH) before the rotational crop is planted
- Overlapped areas
