Tips for applying Reflex in beans
June 7, 2022
Reflex® herbicide delivers fast knockdown and short-term residual control of broadleaf weeds, including all ragweed biotypes, pigweed and nightshade, in soybeans and dry beans. Here are our expert recommendations on getting the most out of your application.
Carefully time your application
- Weed size is critical. Weeds must be very small for optimal control.
- Spray at first to second trifoliate. If weeds are advance, and you need to spray Reflex earlier than first trifoliate to get good control, beans will not be injured.
- The best recommendation for timing is applying 18-21 days after planting beans.
- Aim to apply during daylight hours – i.e., 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. – for the most effective control.
Apply with the right rates and water volumes
- Coverage is key to getting good control.
- Use Reflex at 0.4 L/ac in a minimum of 20 U.S. gal/ac (200 L/ha).
- Nozzles that deliver medium-sized droplets (flat fan or similar) for best coverage are highly recommended.
- Nozzles that produce coarse droplets are not recommended.
Always use an adjuvant with Reflex
- Include an oil/surfactant blended product like Turbocharge® at 2.5 to 5 litres per 1000 litres. Generally, 4 L/1000 L is recommended. Reach out to your Syngenta representative for additional adjuvant options.
- Increase to the high rate of adjuvant when weeds are big and/or tough to control.
Dealing with bigger weeds?
- Apply Reflex at 0.4 L/ac with 5 L/1000 L of the required adjuvant.
- Add 0.8 L/ac of 28%.
- Apply in 25-30 gal/ac of water.
- Flat fan nozzles are highly recommended.
Tank mix tips
- When tank-mixing with another product that also requires an adjuvant, prioritize your Reflex adjuvant.
- On dry beans, when tank mixing with Basagran® Forte, which has a significant amount of surfactant and oil, an adjuvant rate of 2 L/1000 L is often sufficient for optimal control.
Labelled weeds
- Control: Common ragweed, redroot pigweed, wild mustard, lady's thumb, Eastern black nightshade and cocklebur (less than 4 leaves).
- Suppression: lamb’s quarters (2-4 leaf) and velvetleaf (less than 3 leaves).
