The Canadian canola crush surged to its highest monthly level of the 2025-26 crop year in July, capping a record year for domestic processing.
Statistics Canada data on Friday showed domestic processors crushed 1.322 million tonnes of canola in July, up 13.1% from 1.169 million in June and 36.5% above the 968,515 processed in July 2025.
The strong July performance lifted the full 2025-26 crop-year crush, covering August 2025 through July 2026, to 12.891 million tonnes. That was nearly 1.48 million tonnes, or 13%, above the 11.412 million crushed during the 2024-25 crop year. The record crush reflected a particularly strong finish to the marketing year. Monthly processing exceeded 1 million tonnes in nine of the 12 months of 2025-26, including each month from March through July.
Canola oil production also jumped sharply in July. Processors produced 561,644 tonnes of oil, up 13.5% from 494,638 in June and 37.4% above the 408,898 produced in July 2025. For the full 2025-26 crop year, canola oil output reached 5.48 million tonnes, up 13.7% from 2024-25.
Meal production followed a similar trend. July canola meal output climbed to 764,187 tonnes, up 11.7% from 684,095 in June and 33.8% above the same month last year. Full-year meal production totaled 7.512 million tonnes in 2025-26, an increase of 12% from the previous crop year.
The higher crush continues to reflect expanded Canadian processing capacity and strong demand for canola oil and meal. In its August supply-demand outlook, Agriculture Canada projected the 2026-27 canola crush at another new record high of 13.7 million tonnes.
