Buoyed in part by canola, Canadian grain deliveries surged in September as the harvest advanced.
A Statistics Canada report on Monday showed total deliveries of major Canadian grains reached 8.05 million tonnes in September, up 72% from 4.68 million in August and 11% above the 7.26 million tonnes delivered in September 2025.
Canola deliveries climbed to 2.751 million tonnes in September, more than doubling from 1.121 million in August. Deliveries were also 43% higher than the 1.917 million tonnes reported in September 2025, representing the largest year-over-year increase in tonnage among the major crops.
Durum wheat deliveries reached 488,647 tonnes, more than double the 234,358 delivered in August. However, September deliveries remained 27% below the 667,722 tonnes recorded a year earlier.
Total wheat deliveries rose to 4.115 million tonnes, up 48% from 2.787 million in August and 1% above September 2025. Wheat (excl durum) totalled 3.626 million tonnes, increasing 42% from August and 7% from the 3.405 million delivered in September last year.
Barley deliveries posted another substantial monthly increase, rising to 869,942 tonnes from 394,240 in August, a jump of 121%. Deliveries were also 2% above the 851,347 tonnes reported in September 2025.
Oat deliveries, meanwhile, moved in the opposite direction, falling to 274,835 tonnes from 339,90 in August, a decline of 19%. Deliveries were down 27% from 376,851 tonnes a year earlier, making oats one of the weakest performers on a year-over-year basis.
