Farm Groups Part of Coalition Calling for Tax Change

The Canadian Federation of Agriculture (CFA) and Ontario Federation of Agriculture (OFA) are among the groups that are part of a national coalition calling for comprehensive tax reform in the upcoming federal budget.

Representing more than 700,000 businesses and professionals in total, the coalition was announced Friday and is led by the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario (CPA Ontario).

The organizations argue that Canada's complex tax system discourages investment, limits entrepreneurship, and undermines competitiveness. The coalition is calling for reforms that simplify tax rules, encourage business investment and expansion, and support small businesses.

Agricultural organizations emphasized the importance of tax reform for farm investment, succession planning, and long-term competitiveness.

"Farm businesses are capital-intensive, multigenerational enterprises that require long-term investment and planning," said CFA president Keith Currie. "Modernizing Canada's tax system can help ensure farm families have the confidence to invest, innovate, and pass productive operations on to the next generation of Canadian farmers."

OFA president Drew Spoelstra added that reducing farm taxes consistently ranks as Ontario farmers' top policy priority.

The coalition welcomed Ottawa's recently introduced Productivity Mega Deduction but said broader reforms are needed.
