The corn and sunflower harvests will continue for the next few weeks, but fall fieldwork in Manitoba is now mostly complete, according to the final provincial crop report for the 2025 growing season on Thursday.
The report showed the overall Manitoba harvest at 97% done as of Monday, up 4 points from a week earlier. Corn and sunflowers were estimated at 71% and 37% finished, respectively.
Winter wheat yields ranged from 50 to 90 bu/acre, while fall rye averaged between 60 and 110 bu/acre. Warm autumn conditions and ample soil moisture have supported excellent establishment for the 2026 winter wheat and fall rye crops, the report said.
Among spring cereals, wheat yields ranged from 50 to 90 bu/acre, with an expected provincial average near 60 bu/acre. Quality has been strong overall, with protein levels between 13.5 and 14.5%. Oats yielded 80 to 120 bu/acre, while barley came in between 80 and 110 bu/acre. However, later-harvested cereals faced some yield and quality losses due to wet harvest conditions, the report noted.
Corn yields have varied widely — 90 to 120 bu/acre in drier regions and 130 to 150 bu/acre in areas that received more consistent rainfall. Canola averaged near 45 bu/acre, with yields ranging from 30 to 60 bu/acre. Flax performed solidly at 25 to 35 bu/acre, and sunflower harvest is showing below-average yields in the Interlake but average to above-average results elsewhere. Soybean yields are averaging around 40 bu/acre, ranging from 30 to 50 bu/acre.
Pasture conditions have held up well into fall. Timely late-season rains extended grazing opportunities, particularly on well-managed pastures. Despite a dry, cool start to the summer, forage growth improved considerably as the season progressed, the report said.
