Andrea Brocklebank will take on the newly designated role of Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Cattle Association (CCA) in early March, marking a significant leadership transition for the national industry organization.
CCA president Tyler Fulton announced Brocklebank’s appointment on Tuesday, highlighting her strong record of strategic leadership and collaboration as key attributes that will support continuity and position the organization for future challenges. Brocklebank currently serves as executive director of the Beef Cattle Research Council (BCRC), which operates as a division of the CCA.
Fulton said the board is confident Brocklebank will guide the association through ongoing global market uncertainty, including work related to the renewal of the Canada–United States–Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) and other key policy priorities.
The CEO title represents a new designation for the Canadian Cattle Association. According to Fulton, the change more accurately reflects the responsibilities of the organization’s senior leadership role, particularly as the association prepares for the retirement of longtime executive vice-president Dennis Laycraft. While the core mandate of the position remains similar, Fulton said modest but important adjustments were made to ensure the role aligns with the evolving needs of the organization.
As part of the transition, Tracy Herbert has been appointed interim executive director effective March 1. Herbert has led BCRC’s knowledge mobilization program since joining the organization in 2011. Laycraft will continue in his current role until the leadership handover is completed in March.
Brocklebank joined the CCA in 2004 and has held several roles within Canfax Research Services and the BCRC. She has served as executive director of the BCRC since 2009.
