Ottawa Invests $4 Million to Help Grow Canadian Beef Sector

The federal government is investing more than $4 million to help expand markets for Canadian beef and veal at home and abroad.

Agriculture Minister Heath MacDonald announced the funding on Wednesday, with the money earmarked for Canada Beef and the Canadian Cattle Association through the AgriMarketing Program.

Canada Beef will receive up to $3.7 million over two years, from 2026 to 2028, to increase awareness and demand for Canadian beef and veal among domestic and international customers, said a federal release.

The funding is intended to help build a more competitive and profitable industry by promoting the quality of Canadian products and supporting market development activities.

The Canadian Cattle Association will receive up to $300,000 over the same period to defend and expand market access for Canadian beef. Its work will focus on trade advocacy, strengthening international relationships and promoting science-based, trade-supportive rules, the release added.

MacDonald said the investments are aimed at helping Canadian producers expand their reach and showcase Canadian beef in global markets.

CCA president Tyler Fulton said the funding will allow the association to make more effective use of producer check-off dollars by participating in trade missions, exploring new export markets and ensuring cattle producers have a voice in global policy discussions.

Ottawa has also committed an additional $75 million over five years, from 2026-27 to 2030-31, to expand the AgriMarketing Program and support greater market diversification amid trade uncertainty.
